In our opinion, a room is not complete without at least one indoor plant sitting pretty somewhere. Finding the perfect indoor plants for your home will depend largely on the room they are going in and the light and temperature conditions of that particular space. We know the best plants to keep in the bathroom are those that love humidity, and you would never keep a sun-loving plant in a dark corner of your home — if you plan on keeping it alive, that is.

So what about the bedroom? Bedrooms aren’t always the most well-lit spaces in the home, as light flow is usually controlled by window coverings. As a result, it’s best to choose plants that don’t require full sun. Another factor to consider is air purification. While all plants remove toxins from the air, some work harder than others to purify the air while you sleep. Some of them are even thought to be able to stop you from snoring!

Jungle Cactus

If your bedroom soaks up the sun and you’re after something unique, Georgina recommends the jungle cactus. “If you want something wild you could go for a jungle cactus. These gorgeous things have long drapey foliage and do well in well-lit indoor spaces. They look great in a hanging planter. They’re in the cactus family and don’t like too much water,” she says.

Sensation Peace Lily

“If you’re looking for a softer, lush feel, try a sensation peace lily (Spathiphyllum “Sensation”). This is a cultivar of the old, faithful peace lily with huge leaves. It fills a corner beautifully and will tell you when it’s thirsty (it’s leaves start drooping!). It grows well in most indoor spaces and has excellent air-purifying qualities.”
